Any success I’ve achieved this year is due to all the wonderful people at CORE FITNESS and especially through my partnership with my remarkable trainer, Megan Gucwa. Over my years at CORE FITNESS I have gained so much from the knowledge and encouragement of all the staff and fellow clients. CORE FITNESS isn’t “just” a gym: it’s a place where you learn injury prevention, functional strength training, balance, nutrition, and mental toughness. I love that I attain something every time that I’m on the training floor. While I’m warming up or cooling down I can observe the work of elite athletes, people doing rehab, and regular folks like me and I’m inspired by their example. I’ve learned that at CORE FITNESS you aren’t judged solely on your innate athletic talent but on your dedication to reaching your potential, whatever that may be. Despite injuries and aging I’ve been able to break through the mental barrier of perceived limitations about my physical abilities through trust and confidence in my trainer, Megan. A great trainer doesn’t just have athletic training knowledge. They possess insight into each client’s learning style, incredible patience, and the ability to motivate, encourage, and teach movement to the proprioceptively challenged. When I’m at my most obtuse, Megan breaks down a new movement pattern into tiny achievable goals - a true test of forbearance. I know under Megan’s perceptive guidance I won’t get hurt and I will get stronger. Finally, I have fun while I’m training. Striving to balance on one foot, working on coordinating heavy lifts, learning new core work and managing to survive aerobic exercise keeps each session exciting and challenging. And for those unavoidable uncoordinated accidents or cranky old joints I can also count on Kelsey Wolfe of the Center for Movement and Performance and her Class IV Laser treatment to speed my return to working out. I look forward to continuing to staying fit and strong with everyone’s help in between laughing and celebrating new “personal bests”.Julie
